I have a simple solution that will satisfy all parties but I’m the low man on the tot em pole and no one has the stones to make a decision, so I’m just going to keep my mouth shut.

conference call?
sounds like a strategic trip to the breaker room is called for
oh noes... we are experiencing technical difficulties

Just to be clear here, by “breaker room” you mean BAR, correct?

I’ve introduced myself at the beginning. It’s been 80 minutes since, I don’t think they would even notice that I’m gone.

Are you billing by the hour? If so, silence is golden!

probably want to hit the bar first as switching everything off in the breaker room will allow to beer to warm up

Doesn’t matter if you are the low man or not, still worth it to speak up. Just my opinion.

I miss conference calls when I didn’t have to say anything.

There are about 10 people in a room, actively talking and not doing anything. Amazing how much can be said without saying anything.

It got brought up. It seemed logical. The rep for company A, a consultant for company A - said they can’t speak to that, and went back to the circular conversation. No one from company A that has a meaningful stake called in or showed up in person. You can literally throw a rock from the conference room and hit the building of the company A.
This project will never end.

just got off a conference call where I SHOULD have just been silent the whole time while my coworker tried to trash my work. However, she got herself in a mess and I had to step in to fix it...again.

Does she need a paddlin’ like Murphy?

10 Internet Points if you drop the expression “there are some ruffians about” in the conference call. Doesn’t have to be people, just hurdles or challenges in the project.

I’m always the one who says “so when are you going to get your shit together”. Otherwise there is not point in the calls.

Seems to me then you just cancel the meeting. Except that people would then have to stop talking and go back to work.
![]() 09/25/2018 at 17:46 |

I would cancel it. Project leads called it. Ugh.

What I sometimes do when someone doesn’t show up is call their office and ask, “we’re here; are you coming?” Put them on the spot. I can get away with that in academia

Sounds like working with the government.
Funny story, we had a partnering meeting for a construction project and all the stakeholders were there from all parties. Good times... but the government group gets up to explain their org structure, and they are writing it on a big sheet of paper easel thingy, and I shit you not, the chart turned into a damn circle. And that about sums up the next three years of my working life... nobody would make a decision for anything. Good times.
